I have a fast and hard rule about Christmas music: Not until Thanksgiving. Although retailers, (read: infadels), have been playing it since Halloween or before, I will not listen to any of it until after Thanksgiving dinner. And it ceases for the year the day after Christmas.
It's not that I don't like Christmas music; quite the contrary. I like it too much to overdo it.
Speaking of Christmas music, Grant Miller has recently listed some of the tracks on the new Toby Keith Christmas album. My favorite was "I'll be Gittin' Drunk for Christmas." You can view the rest of them here.
I'm with the in-laws for Thanksgiving right now. It's nearly bedtime. After doing 8 shows in 6 days at my theatre, I'm greatly in need of rest to prepare for my day of eating and watching the Cowboys.
In the coming weeks there will be much joy spread here at Cachinnation Central. I have my long-awaited report on the annual Pumpkin Carving Competition, my report on homecoming, my wrap-up of our recent production of Hairspray, news about the forthcoming Gingerbread House Building Competition, and my continuing exposé on the evils of inflatable lawn decorations.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, I agree with "not until after Thanksgiving rule." Here, they traditionally did not do anything for Christmas until Christmas got here, but unfortunately, Scotland too has been influenced by the big, bad retailers who already have Christmas stuff displayed.
I would like to contest your "day after Christmas it stops" rule though. What happened to the 12 days of Christmas? Christmas season in liturgical calendar technically goes until Epiphany, so why not celebrate until Jan. 6. It's tradition!

I could accept that, Nutmeg. And it actually does cross my mind every year. I just haven't gone there yet. Perhaps I'll consider it this year and see how it goes.

So, can we expect pictures of this years carved pumpkins before Christmas? Your readership is getting restless. I've heard rumors of people being offered bribes for swiping the pics and posting them on another blog. The problem with that idea is that it would be devoid of commentary, which is the far more entertaining part of the post.
