This past week my theatre hosted a children's production of the Velveteen Rabbit that I wrote, produced, and directed. Here's a shot from the production:
Now many of you may be thinking, "Ooooh, how sweet! Children's theatre!" I hate to burst your bubble, but it ain't all that sweet. First you've got the busloads and busloads of germ-infested little children who all seem to be contemplating where in your theatre they should throw up first. Then you've got the teachers who all want to know why they didn't get better seats.
But the point of this exposé today is to highlight the real terror of children's theatre: the actors. You might think that children's theatre is a big draw for saintly people who want nothing more than to make little children happy. But you'd be wrong. Behold our photographic evidence:
Who's he talking to? His agent? His girlfriend? His other girlfriend?Doesn't matter; whoever it is, that person is more important than you.
We had a blast with all this. As soon as I can figure out how to manipulate the files, I'll upload the alternate ending to the Velveteen Rabbit that we filmed.

Excuse the comment that will have nothing to do with your post:
I'm working with a girl right now who came through your theater in Wonderful Town, and she says you and your theater are the bomb.com. Yea, Cach!

Woo hoo! Everybody loves the Hippodrome!

Is there a reason everybody is putting their hand up in front of the camera?

MB, divas don't just allow anyone to take their picture. It's a very dramatic business, children's theatre.

Cach,
Thanks for the explanation. It must be tough to work around so many divas.

How in the world do you still have time to study? Are you still in school too?

My daughters love children's theater. I'm sure they'd have loved the show. And they wouldn't have even vomited.

Wish I could have seen it! Speaking of children's theatre, my friend Michelle is touring with TheatreWorks February through June doing Max and Ruby. She's playing Ruby. Something to look into.
Next investment for your theatre: structural props that don't consist of white lattice.

But I love the white lattice! It speaks to my soul.

Meg,
He is no longer in school. He is officially what we educated folks call...a dropout. he won't say that, however there are those of us around that like to remind him the he got to school before us and after 4 years of classes we will be graduating before him.
love

I'm not a dropout! I took a class last summer and I'm going to take one in the Fall! I'm not a dropout! And just because I'm not in school doesn't mean I'm not studying. I'm not a dropout!
