Okay, okay... here it finally is:

This past Halloween we held the Fourth Annual Baker Pumpkin Carving Competition. It was a fun time and while it was smaller than past competitions, it featured some good creativity. (I should explain why it was smaller: I'm an idiot. I screwed up the evite and half the list got left off. So it's my fault.) That aside, it was fun.

First off, as I looked over the photos of the event, I realized that anyone who wasn't there could easily have gotten the wrong impression of the event. Since I'm not one to clear up misconceptions when they can be used for humor, I present the following photos:

B-Moo, mother of two, appears to have already gotten loaded
before picking up sharp knives and carving.
Thus ends her political aspirations.

What's with the purple haze around these fine
young people, several of them seminarians?
One has to wonder...

This one's actually not misleading in the least.
And really, it could have been taken any time
of any day of any week.
(Consider that one revenge for the
dropout comment from a few posts back.)

But now on to the entrants:

This year, for the first time, we had a remote entry. This is a practice we highly encourage for the future. Since this was the first year, and we didn't really know how to handle it, this entry wasn't judged. But it's really good! It's the world!

Looks just like the real thing... if the real thing
were covered in lava and viewed from space.

Pretty cool, eh?

This year's annual "Should Have Won But Instead Got Robbed" entry was the first animated pumpkin. Here's the still:

Behold: Flaming Head of Death

And here's a video of it:

I don't know why we keep inviting back the same judge, but she never gets it right. Every year someone gets robbed, and this year that person was Gene Kelly Parker with the Flaming Head of Death. Bravo anyway, Parker.

Third place went to the year's least tasteful entry. Don Boscoe brings us an homage to the California wildfires:

"California on Fire" or "Don Boscoe Loses His Soul."

Placing second was my entry. What else but a Baker? Next to the Baker is Beeki's annual "Pandering to the Judge" entry. It's yet to work out for her, but bless her for trying. Her pumpkin is Julie Leader. It's a long story for another time...

The winner was Charlie Brown, submitted by Drunken B-Moo, (see photo above.)

And that was this year's competition! Of course, the Pumpkin Carving Competition is really just a primer for the main event: The Annual Baker Gingerbread House Building Competition. Get ready, Cachinnatees, it's coming in mid-December. We will accept remote entries. It's gonna be big.

UPDATE:

Below is the requested photographic evidence that Beffy was in attendance. It's also a photo of the judging:

  4. euphrony Said,

The Euphrony's did a gingerbread house at my parents over Thanksgiving. No pics, though, as the kids ate while they worked.
