Get Away

Posted by Anonymous On 12:08 PM

You get fed up with the ratrace. You get tired of the pressures. You are not defined by what you do. So you decide to get away from everything - like Witness Protection Program get away from everything. Where would you go? What would you do? Change your life completely. What does it look like? What's your 'Getaway' life?

Me? I move to the South of France in a quaint little provincial town and work as the town baker. Each day, I get up and bake bread and pastries for the town. Each night, I visit with my neighbors and play music. Each Sunday, I sit quietly in the pews at the local church just like any other parishoner.

What about you?

7 Cachinnations

  1. The Cliff Said,

I'd hate to see the outcome of you baking/consuming bread on a daily basis!!

secret word - pmaqnek - the 4th chin that Cach would have after said baking/consuming takes place

  2. The Cliff Said,

If i could do it, i'd move to an island in the Caribbean, live in a house near the beach, own a little bar off the beach and be that bartender that everyone knows.

Bar opens at noon, closes at 2 a.m. and is always closed on sunday...for worship on the beach of course!

  3. Dr. T Said,

This is wierd, I know, but I would have my exact same life, but in a quaint mountain town in Colorado. The only thing I need a break from is the rather bland landscape around me - my job rocks, I get to teach voice and opera, travel and sing opera, and I set my own schedule pretty much. It would be nice to climb a mountain or shoot some rapids in my down time is all. So...college professor at 10,000 feet is my "escape".

secret word - ndgmc - the much less successful spin-off of the popular 80's group RUNDMC

  4. Cach - Have you ever done an in-depth genealogy of your family roots? 'Cuz you know, a lot of family names come from the trade or profession that a given family engaged in. I'm just sayin' -- maybe you're feeling that tug because it's in your blood. :-)

  5. As for me, I feel weird saying it too (like Dr. T), but where I live now and what I do is not too far from what I dream of.

And in one sense, maybe that scares me a little. Surely things can't be that good, right? Surely something will come along and ruin it, leaving me longing for something different to escape to.

I read over your paragraph, and here's a similar description of my actual life:

Me? I move to the South of Nashville in a quaint little provincial town and work on my favorite hobby -- computers. Each day, I get up and enter my home office, where I remotely operate computers for a far away company. Each night, I visit with my neighbors and play music. Each Sunday, I sit quietly in the pews at the local church just like any other parishoner.

I have a lot to be thankful for, and I hope I'm living to give away as much of myself and my stuff as I can, for the glory of the good God who has blessed me so much. I can honestly say that I did not pursue this life I'm living, it seems like it just worked out this way. And I realize and accept that it can just as easily be taken away, so I need to appreciate it while it's here, but not cling to it with whitened knuckles.

  6. Grizham Said,

    My get away?

I'd be either a Parson or a fisherman in Northen Scotland, or in Ireland. Live free and easy, so to speak

  7. Anonymous Said,

Mine would be operating a bed and breakfast out of an old farmhouse on a cattle ranch in the Texas hill country. I would renovate and decorate the house (maybe convert a barn into living space!) and N.O. would run the ranch operation. There may or may not be fields of lavender. It would not be easy work, but it would be fulfilling.

Either that, or being a librarian in a tiny Welsh village.

Mystery word: npanva. Looks like nirvana, which is what this post is all about!
