   My definition is in reference to how someone is paid:
   
   Bi monthly means paid on the 15th day and the 1st or last day of the month.
   
   Bi weekly means that you are paid every other week.

   These are both terrible words, because nobody knows what they really mean.
   
   I would prefer to say that bi-monthly means twice a month and bi-weekly means twice a week, just to keep them consistent. But I think they are most commonly used the way that anonymous defined them above. Which means they totally contradict each other, and make no sense.
   
   Not sure which dictionary you are using, but the online dictionary that I often consult actually gives BOTH possible definitions for BOTH of these words, i.e. bi-monthly means twice a month OR once every two months, and bi-weekly means twice a week OR once every two weeks. And apparently it's not necessary to hyphenate them, either. Ugh.

   Yeah... I've found that the terms are either meaningless or they can mean whatever you want them to. I even saw a dictionary recommend avoiding them in favor of saying something like, "every two weeks," or, "twice a week."

   I think most of us would say our pay could accurately be defined as laughable (and usually far less than we deserve!) =0)

    For what its worth, in the financial realm, biannually means two times a year, bimonthly means twice a month, but biweekly means every two weeks. Why this is the case, I do not know.
