I'm going to jail!
Theme Song:
Yes, that's right, the law finally caught up with my college indiscretions... I mean... wait a sec... I've just been informed that's not true. My indiscretions are safely buried. (Right, like you never played... nevermind...) But I am still going to jail. I have volunteered to go to jail for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Now what I need is for you to help bail me out! I've got a $2000 goal to raise. Come on, that's nothing! I need your help, Cachinnatees.
When I think of Muscular Dystrophy, I usually think of Jerry Lewis and the telethons. (Actually, I usually think of when the Muppets helped host. I think of the Muppets often, really...)The Muscular Dystrophy Association is actually kind of a blanket organization for a wide variety of diseases. This is one of those organizations that is just all good. They are as solid as can be and they do so much tangible good in the world. And they depend on regular people to keep the research and good work going. From their website: "The Association's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funding or fees from those it serves." And this Lock-Up is one great way they raise funds.
Now before you start sending me checks, (I mean, feel free to do that anytime... but...), you can donate straight to the MDA online. In fact, I'd prefer you did. I don't really have any strong desire to handle the money directly. Here's my MDA page. You can donate straight to the MDA from there.
Cachinnatees, this is a great cause. This is what we've been talking about on a number of blogs around here when we've discussed being the arms and legs of Jesus here on Earth. This is a great way to make a difference to the least among us. There are some very sick kids who could use the help. Let's do everything we can to support them. Please go to my MDA page, and donate whatever you can.
Now the big thing is that I need you to spread this around! Link to me here, steer folks this way, send out emails, tell your friends! We need to get the word out! I need lots of help doing this. Thanks and God bless!

Hello? Cachinnatees? Anyone? Can we help? Can we spread the word? Help me Obi-Wan Cachinnaty, you're my only hope...

thanks for doing something for the poor. we evangelicals, is that a word?, don't like to do that. let's face it. we are trained in the "get up off your butt and work mentality." it's kinda hard to do that when you have a disease. i'll talk to my hubby tonight about donating.

So you're being incarcerated for the debilitated. Cool. If you end up on death row, I'll donate the steak that I owe you for your final meal.
Magic word: zowoso

Cach - Great cause, I just sent a little bail your way. :-)
When I was a kid growing up in Houston, the MDA Telethon was always a big event. We would go door-to-door with a coffee can, asking people to donate to the MDA, then when our cans were full, our parents would drive us down to the Channel 2 studios (KPRC). There, we'd stand in line in the studio for the chance to walk through on live TV, and announce our name and how much we'd collected, then dump all the change into the big garbage cans they had in the studio.
I think Ron Stone used to be the TV anchor there for years and years, he always did the local feed part of the Telethon. Wonder if he's still around. Any Houston-area Cachinnatees know who I'm talking about? And his weather guy was Doug Johnson. I'm surprised I still remember those names.
Anyway...sorry to reminisce. Thanks for doing this, Cach!

It's a pleasure, Hammer. I'm really very honored to have the opportunity. As for Ron Stone and Doug Johnson... well? Houstonians? I know you're out there!
I just love how the MDA Telethon, Jerry Lewis, Jerry's Kids, etc., have all become a part of our everyday vernacular. Everybody knows what you're talking about, even if it's only a vague awareness. They have done so much to raise awareness and compassion for people suffering a number of these different diseases.
Everyone else? What do you think of the whole thing? Can I get a little blog-love? The more people we tell, the more help we can get for the MDA! I'm counting on you!
