I scored Cachinnatees! I scored! The drought is over! It's really over!
It was so great. It was early in the game, maybe our fourth or fifth possession. I rolled off setting a pick to the top of the key. I was just inside the three-point line. The guy who got the dish low drew an immediate double team. (Seriously, come on, I can even talk basketball now. I'm so going pro after this season.) So he kicked it back out to me. I had a clear path to the basket. Everything got all slow-motion and all the noise got drowned out in favor of a faint Vangelis going in my head. The ball arced just as I practiced. It was just as our captain coached me, "Don't shoot the ball at the hoop. Shoot it so it falls in the hoop."
And it did! I scored! Everyone stood and clapped and cheered. It was awesome. I haven't had that feeling since my hockey-playing days. (For those of you who are currently unaware, I was one badass goalie at hockey. At one point in my life I had to choose between pursuing a professional hockey career or a professional acting career. I stand by my choice...)
Of course... if I weren't still so thrilled that I finally actually scored I might be just a tidge humiliated at all the hooplah over one fairly insignificant basket. But I am still so thrilled, so who cares?!
There was one conversation worth noting. It was between myself and a friend from church who came to cheer us on. (Although he didn't really watch. He talked to other people watching through the whole game. Jerk.)
Cach: Hey man!
Hassan: Hey! Is Beeki coming?
Cach: Oh, hell no. I don't want her to lose all respect for me.
Hassan: Dude, she sees you naked.
Cach: I know! Trust me: me playing basketball is worse.
Actually, Beeki offers to come every week. She's very supportive. I may let her come some day if this scoring thing becomes a regular habit. Or if I learn how to play defense. Or if I lose 20 lbs.
Stay off drugs and make good choices!

CONGRATS on your 2 point play. Sounds like you took advantage of the double team after your teammate found you ! the open man. Thinking about the last time I played basketball regularly was with Whitmer & Copeland back in hoodbridge. I guess there is no reason why I can't play now, something to think about...

To bad I missed it...I'm so sad. By the time the season is over you might actually score as much as I did in the first game!!

Congratulations on your athletic acheivment!!! I will be contacting the "White Boy Hall-of-Fame" to have you nominated for induction. You never did play b-ball as much as whitmer, card and me. You were too busy with the whole acting thing, and boy was that a waste of time. But I can vouch for the hockey. Scott you were a regular Patrick Roy in between the pipes.
