Queen of the Night Schadenfreude

Posted by Anonymous On 12:34 AM

Words fail me... truly this is the power of YouTube. The following is the Queen of the Night's Vengeance Aria from the Magic Flute. As the name might imply, the role is usually done by a grown woman. The following is neither grown nor a woman. I'm not sure I would have thought this possible before seeing the video. I know it's physiologically possible, but from a technical and execution standpoint, I didn't think it could happen. Enjoy.

Now... what really caught my attention was the wee bit of schadenfreude from wondering what puberty will be like for this kid in a few years with this video floating around. Let's face it, kids in middle school get beaten up for much less than this. And what about when he starts dating, gets to talking to a girl, and all of a sudden that knowing look appears in her eyes as she finally realizes where she's seen him before? Like I said, this is the power of YouTube.

I think it is pretty flipping amazing.

The overalls are more likely to get his ears thumped at school than the Zauberflote tune.

I think in Germany and coincidentally, in some parts of San Francisco, it is a test of manhood if you can wail the Queen of the night by the age of 10.

  2. Anonymous Said,

I was rather impressed. I agree, the lederhosen alone will provide years of bully material. But the singing; I'm sorry, but its one thing to do this, and another entirely to have it broadcast for global enjoyment / ridicule. Let's do the right thing and start a fund for his therapists bill.

  3. I don't think that video was supposed to be quite as funny as I found it to be. Good laugh.

But having said that, yeah, kid's got some serious pipes, doesn't he?

He could just become a eunuch (snip snip) and then he could sing like that forever, and wouldn't care about developing into manhood and stuff.

Beeki - Is THAT on YouTube by any chance?

Not to the best of my knowledge... I wonder if it's possible to keep it that way...

  5. Anonymous Said,

This is a classic! This went around the classical singer forums a few months ago but is always a treat! I'm just glad none of my Sandi Patty concerts are preserved on video let alone for the world to see on youtube... the internet is a scary place. Speaking of... you are a whore and you know why!
Hope you and beki are good!

  8. The Cliff Said,

Dang it, i was hoping no one would ever find that video of me in Lederhosen singing opera. I thought JoB was far enough from civilization that it would never be uncovered. Now i'm going to have to move to a place where even the all pervasive YouTube cannot reach... Oklahoma, here I come!!

  9. Sarah Said,

Boscoe...too late. YouTube has crossed the Red River.

As for the kid...he's got a full scholarship in the bag. He's already earned the respect of the music world. Forget bullying at school, he's headed to the conservatory.
