Gummi Bears

I really wish I had a little camera in my car like they have in those Sonic commercials. You seriously would not believe the conversations that occur on the way to church between Beeki and me.

I would love to be able to recreate the most recent one, but I couldn't keep up with it. The part that I do remember is that Beeki and I got to talking about what we watched on TV as kids. I told her that in addition to Bert and Ernie, I liked the Count, I also watched Mr. Rogers, and I also watched Gummi Bears. Then the following conversation ensued:

Beeki: Gummi Bears? Do you mean Care Bears?

Cach: No! Gummi Bears.

Beeki: The candy?

Cach: No, the show! Gummi Bears.

Beeki: It's a show?

Cach: Yes! Oh my gosh, please tell me that you're joking.

Beeki: I've never even heard of that.

Cach: Come on! (singing) "Gummi Bears! Bouncing here and there and everywhere.."

Beeki: I think you're making that up.

She seriously insisted that she hadn't heard of Gummi Bears. She later returned to her skepticism as she tried to reassure me that I was actually talking about Care Bears. I had to inform her that Care Bears was for girls. She doubted that as well.

So when we got home, I turned to YouTube: the neverending source of proof that I'm not crazy. Behold:

I know you all remember. And now you've got the song stuck in your head for the rest of the day. You're welcome.

Yes, I remember the Gummi Bears. You're not crazy

  2. DAN BUCK Said,

For the record, this has nothing to do with her age. I lead a group of undergrads in a rousing rendition of this very theme song just days ago in the green room.

    She's crazy.

By the way, congrats on the limerick contest, c'mon back for another round tomorrow. Oh and you have GOT to check out http://baylorgreenroom.blogspot.com! There's a video produced by one of our undergrads that will make your toes curl!

  3. Karen S Said,

I don't think we got that show in Mexico... I remember the monkikis (sp?) though.

Oh, and by the way, meg, the fact that he remembers correctly does not preclude his being crazy!

  5. Red Said,

I remember the song, but not the show. Probably because my cheap parents wouldn't shell out he dough for the stinkin' Disney channel. I had to get my fill of Kids Incorporated at the babysitters.

    Dang cheap parents.

  6. Tracy Said,

Oh, that theme song cracks me up. Sung with the gusto of a Broadway show tune! :)

    Care Bears rule.

  8. Douglas Said,

I barely remember the Gummi Bears, since they came on the scene as I was outgrowing cartoons, but even an old fart like me can remember them.

    "Care Bears rule."
Only a girl would say such a thing, not that they are bad, but they are just so girly that any guy who would even think it would be considered defacto effeminate. Beeki is funny farm nutso if she insists that Care Bears are for both boys and girls.

  9. Um...

I kinda liked the Care Bears.

But let me qualify that by saying that I really only liked the butch ones like Brave Heart Lion and Lotsa Heart Elephant. So I guess I was more of a fan of the Care Bear Cousins.

Though I did own a stuffed Good Luck Bear of my very own.

Give me a break! I'm Irish!

  10. Oh, and wasn't one of the bad guys on the Gummi Bears named "Dooky" or something like that? I think so. And I think Green Day released an album about him.

  11. FancyPants Said,

See, Bibb Leo even remembers their names.

    Care Bears rule.

    Care! Bear! STARE!!!!!

I mean, who wouldn't want power emanating like a rainbow from your belly?

  12. Anonymous Said,

Seth's got that power... although it's from a little lower and around the corner from his belly... and I wouldn't describe it as "rainbowish..."

  13. Seth Ward Said,

    I do that power.

And Holy CRAP. I forgot ALL about that show. I LOVED that show. That and "The Littles."

  14. euphrony Said,

Sipping my Gummi Beary juice now . . . that way I'll be bouncing off the walls singing the theme song while I watch a guy demo a new microscope here in ten minutes. Thanks!

Sad to say, but I have watched more Care Bears than Gummi Bears - and that as an adult. Its amazing what have a little girl getting you to watching. Me and Strawberry Shortcake are on pretty good terms, as well.
