Cue the theme song:
Soooo... These are a few of my favorite things. They're not like a wish-list for my birthday, (which is right around the corner!), they're simply things that I enjoy. Some of them I love, some of them make me happy, some of them get me through the day. Enjoy! (And if this is too boring for you... just play the theme song again!)
The One Campaign - The One Campaign is most frequently associated with Bono and Live 8. It has participants from every walk of life and has brought together everyone from Pat Robertson to George Clooney. It is the best organized and most focused campaign of its kind. It is giving the everyday Joe a chance to take part in something bigger than himself and it is opening up minds to the bigger world outside of American suburbia.
Dominik Hasek - This is my sports hero. I played the same position as him, goalie, when I played hockey. He is greatness. This is a picture of him when he played for my favorite team, the Buffalo Sabres. (Who, by the way, are up 3-0 against the Senators, Hasek's current team in the playoffs right now. It's hard to root against my guy, but he hasn't been playing due to injury, so GO SABRES!) When healthy, he's mesmerizing to watch. Sweet.
Angels & Airwaves - This one is odd to claim as a favorite since their first album hasn't come out yet, but I've heard a few cuts off of the upcoming album and I like it. I also like a lot of what Tom DeLonge, the lead singer and former frontman for Blink182, says about the band and music on their MySpace. This is gonna be big.
The Mummy - When asked about my favorite movies, I always include this one. It seems like an odd choice, I know, for someone with as broad of tastes as I have. But if you haven't seen it, trust me, it's great. A perfect summer movie. Very little on-screen gore, no bad language, no gratuitous sex, yet still exciting, romantic, thrilling, and even funny. I can't explain. I just love it.
Invisible Children - We hosted a screening of the film at the Hippodrome earlier this year. Check out the site for the background story, but in a nutshell this is a campaign to end a civil war in Uganda. Among the many atrocities being committed is forcing children to become soldiers. If you don't yet know about this, find out.
Mental Floss Magazine - This magazine makes me soooo happy. It is nerdy fun cover-to-cover. There's not a better or more entertaining collection of useless trivia on the planet. This is good stuff. Even the website is great with their nerdy Quiz of the Day.
The Dallas Cowboys - My team. 'Nuff said.
Mute Math - One of the highest-energy new acts around. They're in a fight with their label right now, and I'm not totally sure how I feel about it, but the music is good stuff. Due to the fight, the only way to get the album is online at their site. It's cool, man.
My Treo - It keeps me from having to think. I wouldn't even know where to start my day without it. Needless to say, I back up its info in three places.
The Fake Banana - If you get this, you get it. If not, then it will only add to the mystique that surrounds The Cachinnator. Viva Banana Boy! 24601!

You're the funniest person I know. Let's have sex.

Now, girls, let's not fight. You're both pretty. Well... actually... you're not Gray-ham. Sorry.
Posted on 5/11/2006
It's happily married people like you that make being single sip hard core...
I'm excited about AA too... haha AA...
Posted on 5/12/2006
So...no...I don't get the banana, but....gross.
And The Mummy? Really? I wouldv'e never guessed it. I'm right with ya there on Mute Math, but the Mummy? Sorry, I have to say, Cach, that might be one of my least favorite movies of all times. =-) Of course, this is coming from the girl whose top 5 include Center Stage and Dirty Dancing.
Fun post!

I've gotta agree with fancypants. I didn't care for The Mummy at all. Enjoyed the post though.
Posted on 5/12/2006
I must say...the movie is an enjoyable watch if one has either smoked a lot of wacky tobaccy...had several (and by several i mean at least 9) Shots of tasty hard liquor...or done acid...but I must say, at least you didn't say Batman and Robin...Quite possible the worst movie of all time...
Posted on 5/12/2006
Really? That many Mummy haters out there? How is it not the perfect summer movie? Come on ladies, Brendan Frasier doesn't even make it worth it? Oded Fehr? (He's like the Brad Pitt of Israel.) John Hannah even? That guy's a riot. Good clean fun? Guy gets girl? Nothing? Fancy, your Top 5 isn't exactly giving you much room to judge there...
And, CB... sorry. What can I say? I'm irrrrrrrrresistable. (And she's drunk.)

Oh, and as for the banana... that one goes back to 1996-7. So if you don't know me back that far... well, it's another story for another time... I'll just say this: most people thought the banana was dead. This is the first time it has resurfaced in at least 6 years.

I happen to love Mental Floss magazine despite I feel very old and motherly when I read it. You have a lovely, mouth-watering banana picture.
Posted on 5/12/2006
yay! the bannana lives!
I've missed it.
Posted on 5/12/2006
Bono is also one of my favorite things - with his ONE campaign and all. He is too dreamy! And, Cach, I DON'T want to have sex with you. For the record.
Posted on 5/12/2006
You see, Q3? It's that kind of attitude that keeps the white boys away.
Posted on 5/12/2006
Dude. The Mummy Abides.
Posted on 5/12/2006
I didn't see any cocker spaniels on this post. What about cocker spaniels? I thought you were supposed to like them or something.
No more drinkie, Beeki.

What is that awful thing on the audio clip? 'Cuz, dude. I want that two minutes of my life back; you know, the two minutes I spent listening to that. But now it's gone, and I can never have that time again. Time I could have been doing something much more useful -- like cleaning the grout between the tiles on my bathroom floor with a toothbrush, or searching for loose change under the cushions on my couch, or mowing my lawn with a pair of dull scissors.
You should really post a warning or advisory of some sort with that clip.

That's you singing, isn't it, Cach? =-)
And you're right, I have no room to judge, but c'mon! Dirty Dancing! Anyone? Patrick Swayze's..."Nobody puts Baby in the corner." And he can DANCE, and even SINGS on the soundtrack! I mean, c'mon!
Posted on 5/12/2006
That's actually the audio from The Cachinnator's American Idol audition. Sadly, he did not get invited to Hollywood.

Cach:
Soooo, are you saying that if I told white boys I wanted to have sex with them, they'd like me more?!
Posted on 5/12/2006
I thought the Mummy was a load of fun. Loved it. It is one of those movies that will eternally polarize men and women. I have yet to meet a female who has liked it. This kind of comment usually inspires one or two women to break out of the mold to either speak up or lie, but just know, you are in the minority and if you are single you prabably won't be for long unless you look like the man in the mask or any other man on here with a beard.
Posted on 5/12/2006
Q3: Yes. Now, don't misconstrue my observation as a reccomendation for action, I'm simply making an observation. Quite the contrary to a reccomendation, I would strongly counsel against telling white boys you want to have sex with them. (And black boys, and brown boys, and green boys, etc...)
Seth, I suspect you are correct. Beeki told me she liked it, but that was right when we started dating, so obviously neither of us is held to anything that was said then. And I was watching it the other day and she couldn't remember a single thing about it... so I think that pretty much proves your point. Ladies? Any Mummy-lovers among you? (That's got a whole other vibe if you're English...)
Posted on 5/12/2006
And for the record... yes, that is me on the theme song. Sorry, Hammer. (Please don't hurt 'em!) ... (Couldn't resist.) I assure you, the badness is 100% intentional. I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse...
Posted on 5/12/2006
And, Hammer, warning label attached as requested. Mea culpa.
Posted on 5/12/2006
Muchos gracias, amigo.

Oh, and about the Mummy...
The Mummy was reasonably entertaining. I enjoyed it, and felt I had been sufficiently amused when it was done.
But c'mon. Indiana Jones was the real thing. The Mummy was way too much of a wannabe of that whole franchise and genre.
Posted on 5/12/2006
It definitely borrowed from Indie. Maybe that's why I liked it so much? No denying Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best movies of all time, in my books at least. I don't truly know. Maybe it is fluff, but it is the best friggin' fluff in the world for me. Like I said, can't explain it. And I love that the Mummy generated like 80% of all responses to a post that included One.org and Invisible Children. That's funny stuff. Cachinnation apropos, no?
Posted on 5/12/2006
Yes, there is no question about it. Indiana Jones, the Raiders is one of the top 10 greatest movies of all time and I would arm-wrestle any woman who disagrees.
The mummy definitely borrowed, it was sort of a parody of Indie. If The Mummy were a food i think that it would be a Smore. No real nutrition but is damn yummy and hits the spot at the right time i.e. Summer.
As far as women and the Mummy i think the only parellel would be with Dirty Dancing and guys. I think that I would rather play with my cliped toenails than watch that flick again.

Amen and Amen.
